Caring for your Flowers

Step by Step...

  1. On receipt of your flowers, remove the wrapping with care.  Be sure to find the free flower food packet which will have been cello taped to the outer cellophane wrap.

  2. Fill a bowl of warm water, place the stems under and cut diagonally with sharp scissors.  This will prevent air bubbles from blocking the passages inside the stem, therefore encouraging more uptake of water.  Ensure the stems are kept beneath the water line as they re-seal within minutes of being in the air.

  3. Fill a clean vase three-quarters full and add the provided flower preservative to the water.  Please read the instructions on the packet carefully, as adding the incorrect amount can be harmful to your flowers.

  4. Arrange the flowers and place the vase away from direct sunlight, radiators and draughts.  The cooler the room, the longer the flowers will last.  Ensure there are no leaves below the water level as this can contaminate the water.

  5. Remember to change the water at least every two to three days and remove any faded blooms to encourage buds to open.

If possible, spray all your flowers with a gentle mist of water daily and deadhead regularly.  If the water in the vase looks cloudy or smells, throw it away and refill with fresh, luke warm water.  Before placing the flowers back in the water, cut again under the water line to remove air bubbles. Continue to add flower food (additional sachets can be bought from Ambience at 5p each.)

Aqua Packs...

If you have received an aqua pack, you may leave your flowers in the wrap, however please remember to top up the water level immediately after delivery.  The wrap will only hold a small amount of water, therefore check this daily.  Be sure to place a mat beneath the cellophane to ensure it does not stain or mark furniture.  The wrap is only temporary and we do not recommend flowers stay in the bubble for more than 48 hours, as this may compromise flower quality.

Arrangments...

For arrangements, please ensure the florist oasis is regularly topped up with water.

Lillies and Roses...

Take care when handling lillies as their pollen can stain.  As the buds open, it is recommended to gently remove the pollen using a tissue.  If pollen does fall, do not rub – use some cello tape and dab gently.

If you find your roses flop at the neck after a few days, be sure to place them in a deep bucket of luke warm water and cut stems as described above to remove any air bubbles in their stems.  Leave for at least 2 hours to help revive.
